Vocational & Technical Education Skills Department

The Department runs a 4-year B.Ed degree, in Home Economics. The department is made up of only one unit with three main area of study, Clothing and Textiles, Food & Nutrition and Management in Living. Several courses are studied under the three main area of study.

The national education objective is to train people to acquire skills and knowledge to fit into the Ghana Education Service. The Department of Vocational and Technical Education, since its establishments, has been teaching students courses that make them more relevant to national needs

At your disposal is a fully integrated library with a collection of over 1000 volumes of books, journals, magazines and video materials covering the subject areas of Education, Languages, Sciences, Technical & Vocational Skills, management, General Studies and Children’s literature/Fiction and Reference Materials.

The goal of the Department is to train Home Economics teachers to provide quality Home Economics Education in Ghanaian basic school. The programme is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills that would enable them effectively handle Home Economics subjects- Catering, Sewing, Basic Design and Technology, Family Life Education at the Junior High Schools.

The programme also provides students with deeper understanding of concepts and principles of Home Economics and equips them with analytical and practical skills, which enable them to improve the quality of life of their families, students and community members
