St. THERESA'S HALL

St. Theresa's Hall

Teresa was the daughter of noble parents in Spain. She was with original name as Teresa de Cepea Ahumada. She was born on March 28, 1515, Alba de Tormes; canonized 1622, with feast day 0n October15, Spanish nun. She was of the great mystics and religious woman of the Roman Catholic Church, and author of spiritual classics. When she was only seven years of age, she and her little brother liked to read stories from the lives of the saints. One of their favorite games was playing ‘’hermit’’ in the garden..

When Teresa was still young, she became crippled by a disease and was unable to walk. She prayed to St. Joseph who cured her. Teresa lost her mother when she was twelve. She begged the mother of God to be her mother. Five years after her mother’s death, she joined the Carmelite Order. She built many new convents. By a life of constant prayer, Teresa brought many souls to Jesus. Her many writings show her great love of God.

Teresa wrote these beautiful words: ‘’Let nothing trouble you, let nothing make you afraid. All things pass away. God never changes. Patience obtains everything. God alone is enough.’’ On October 4th, 1582, Jesus appeared to Teresa with many saints. She begged Him to take her to Himself. After her prayer, her soul was taken to heaven.

O God, you raised up St. Teresa by Your Spirit so that she could manifest to the Church the way to perfection. Nourish us with the food of her heavenly teaching, and fire us with a desire for holiness.
