The creation of Creative Arts Department at St. Ambrose College of Education is seen as one of the most important tool to consolidate learning in visual arts and performing arts areas.
Creative Arts is subject area which is indispensable in the development of creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving skills among learners within the educational system. Creative Arts consists of visual arts and performing arts.The department therefore has two units: The Visual Art and Performing Arts Units.
Visual Arts Unit: This unit is expected to inculcate in student-teachers the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes in teaching Visual Arts strand of the Creative Arts Curriculum in Primary School; and Creative Arts and Design Curriculum at JHS.
The Visual Arts stand of the Creative Arts involves making of artefacts that can be seen, touch and can stimulate emotions. Examples are drawing, painting, packaging, posters, modelling, etc.). Visual Arts has many discrete areas such as graphic design, picture making, textiles, sculpture, ceramics, leatherwork, bead making, jewelry, etc.
Performing Arts Unit: This unit is envisaged to instill in student-teachers the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to effectively handle the Performing Arts Strand in Creative Arts Curriculum in Primary School; and Creative Arts and Design Curriculum at JHS.
This strand of the Creative Arts involves creative activities such music, dance and drama that are performed, usually in front of audience.
